My particular interest is in using volcanic slips, glazes and oxides to produce textures and colours inspired by the natural landscape. I produce thrown stoneware ceramics in a contemporary style ranging from small batch domestic ware through to decorative pieces of tall vases and large bowls with more individual finishes. A range of decorative tall vases, bottles and bowls in thrown stoneware fired to 1240°C (cone 8) in an electric kiln using a combination of oxides and volcanic glazes to achieve finishes inspired by the colours and textures of the natural landscape. The interaction of glaze and oxide results in a unique finish to each piece, ranging from muted pinks through to more intense browns and greens, contrasting with the smooth inner surfaces. I also offer individual throwing tuition at my studio.
